Summer is coming to an end

So it looks like the best of Summer is coming to an end.
I just thought to update.
Nothing much is happening. I'm preparing for college. Enrolment day will be Thursday 31st August, from 9.30am-12.00pm.
I'm really looking forward to this, but I'm also nervous (Naturally).

Dad is going ahead with building arrangements for our home. For the past two years, he's been trying to make up his mind about a huge expensive extension, and finally we're going to have it done. I'm going to actually have a well-sized bedroom after living in a box for years.

You would NOT believe my excitement with this. I've even planned all of the things that I'm going to have in there.. Though, not a bed. I haven't had a bed in years, because my room's so small. Hahaha. I'll probably have a sofabed/futon kind of thing. Anyway.

In other things, I'm buying a new computer. I've decided to convert from PC to Mac! I'll be buying a 20-inch iMac, with all the trimmings. I have a budget of £2000, for the actual computer, initial accessories etc. I won't be able to buy it until January, however.
When my uncle died, he left me about £8000, to be claimed when I'm 18. So yeah, the computer will be a birthday present for myself.
I'll leave the rest in the bank, if that's POSSIBLE. Oneday, a portion of it will go on a baby grand piano, I imagine!
Not any time soon, of course. I've only just had my new piano.

Speaking of which, I went to the library, and picked up seven books on piano. Some are on the birth and history of the instrument, whereas others are books of tuition, but they all looked interesting.
I also picked up three CD's.
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Radiohead - Pablo HONEY
Portishead - Portishead

CV workshop

Aug. 3rd, 2006 | 11:37 pm
mood: goodgood
music: I have my grade 5 piece in my head

Yesterday I went to a CV workshop at the careersadvice centre.
It was an all-day group meeting. There were three others there. Really friendly people. We were shown how to type up our CV properly, what jobs to go for, interview tips et cetera.
Three of us got along so much, that we swapped numbers, deciding to keep contact. A girl called Becky and a boy called Allan. Becky happens to be a 5-month old pianist, which I found rather neat!
She said she'd like to play sometime. Hehehehehehee.
Anyway, great day, really.

Insomnia and Good Music

Jul. 28th, 2006 | 08:18 am

music: Chopin - Etude in C Major op.10 no.1

I stayed up all night, getting people to send me new music (Unless I mentioned it before, I lost all of the music from my iPod. It's a long/short story that I can't be bothered with right now, lest I burst into tears)

I went for a lovely walk at dawn, listening to said music. Sat in the park for a little while.

I came home, played Animal Crossing/Mariokart DS for a while.. Then someone knocks at my door!
What do you know, my Chopin collection and sheetmusic has arrived.
I'm putting all of the music onto my iPod right now. I'm so tired.. I'm only on the 5th CD. 8 more to go!

Happy as the day!

music: Franz Liszt - Danse Macabre

... I passed my Grade 3 piano exam, and it's about time. I passed with Merit, at 75%. I was initially disappointed, but my teacher was like "What's wrong..? That's BRILLIANT". She explained that he's an old-school examiner, and that he didn't give anybody marks much higher.
I am pleased, really.. So then we started my Grade 5 syllabus! I'm so glad to do something new. I mean, I started playing at 8 years old, stuck with it for 2 years, then all the problems started so I quit, and it was only 1 year or so ago that I took it back up. That means that I've only been playing for 3 years, and I'm only just coming up to grade 5. It really makes my blood boil. It's not so bad really. I'm working very hard now. The passion is there.

Oh, and I'm going to college to study performing arts. Apparently, they have a brand new music studio. I'll learn about subjects such as the music business, how to perform to an audience, staging, music theory, and I think extra piano tuition, which might I add is JUST what I need. The course is equal to 5 GCSE's, and you don't need any to start this course.
Hell, I could do 2 courses at the college, and then go on to university. This came as a big surprise. Thank god I dropped by the careersadvice centre, huh?

I just blew £40 on a 13-cd collection of Chopin's works, and a book of his complete preludes, nocturnes, and waltzes. I love you, Chopin <3
So now I'm broke, with barely enough money for my driving lesson this Thursday.

All in the name of music.
As I say, I won't bother writing anything personal here in this journal. I want to use it mainly for education/career/piano purposes.

Tess x

The Virtuoso Pianist

Jul. 10th, 2006 | 10:52 am
music: Dresden Dolls - Good Day

I ordered The Virtuoso Pianist by Hanon on the 8th. It's just been despatched. I'm not sure whether it will get here today or tomorrow, but all I know is that I can't WAIT.

I've tried the first exercise of the book, and I found that somehow, it really worked for me.

I'm so tired. Haven't slept all night.

music: The Smiths - There Is a Light and it Never goes Out

I practised piano for 5 hours today (so far..)
I like to keep track of how long I practise, because I find it helpful. That is, when I have the time.
I enjoyed playing Vltava today. Beautiful watery rivery oceany goodness.

I had my driving lesson. I've come a long way with that too.

The day gets ever closer...

music: Dresden Dolls - Delilah

I practised piano today for 3.5 hours.
I practised from 9am - 11am (and later, during and after my piano lesson) even though I hadn't slept the night before. I felt moody and dreadful, yet I found my practise to be productive.
The four pieces that I have been practising for my grade 3 exam are called

- Allegro. (This is a study that I'm doing instead of all the scales.)
- Jig in A Major.
- Sentimental Waltz.
- Cha-Cha-Cha.

I found that I made the most improvement with Allegro today. My speed is up, and I just feel that I'm more sure of the piece.

I had a few hours sleep before my piano lesson. It went okay, but I found that I was making mistakes that I hadn't been making all day! How frustrating is that? My teacher completely understood though, and said that my playing was beautiful, which was pleasing.
What I have to practise is RECOVERING from mistakes.

Anyway, my exam is on Wednesday 12th July. I have to be there at 9.15am. I really hope I sleep well the night before, so that I can get up bright and early.. Oh Please oh please.

I want nothing more than to be the best that I can be.

music: K's Choice - Not An Addict

‘I must learn to love the fool in me, the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries.'

This journal is friends only, or at least it would be.. had I any friends :)

Only joking. If you're interested in my affairs, or you think we might have stuff in common, comment to be added.
